Drawing on indigenous wisdom from Australia, Ireland and elsewhere it combines the insights of geomancy and geobiology with eco-smart permaculture design, offering an exciting new paradigm for sustainable living. Brimming with practical tips for eco-spiritual gardeners, it encourages us to live sustainably in harmonious co-operation and sacred custodianship of Country.

Transport for Suburbia, beyond the Automobile Age — Paul Mees
Paul Mees has played a key role in analysing ways to achieve “modal shift” from car usage to buses, cycling and walking in Australian cities and sets out what we can learn from the very best from other world cities. His most recent book, Transport for Suburbia: Beyond the Automobile Age, argues that the secret of 'European-style' public transport lies in a general model of network planning that has worked in places as diverse as rural Switzerland, the Brazilian city of Curitiba and the Canadian cities of Toronto and Vancouver.
Paul is one of Australia’s leading experts on urban public transport and his work has provided the basis for the European Union’s 2005 HiTrans project on improving public transport in medium-sized cities and towns (www.hitrans.org).

General Meetings - BM Commuter & Transport User Assoc
General meeting to discuss Railcorp changes and future steps
Dear Friends,
2012 will bring many challenges for train users and commuters in the Blue Mountains. Railcorp is seeking to cut station staff and reduce the number of carriages on services in the Blue Mountains. Our trains are getting older, there arent enough carriages to go around and overcrowding continues to cause problems for commuters in the afternoons. These are just some of the issues we face. Now more than ever our association is needed to ensure the Blue Mountains gets the transport services it needs.
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting and to your support throughout 2012.

Earth Day Event – 29th October 2011
Earth Day Event – 29th October 2011
Hello All,
I have visualised a market-place where our front driveway now is - it has been
kept car-free for several months.
The first event I would like to have there is a follow-up or "sister" event to
the Footlight Festival at North Katoomba Public School.
So, who would like to come along to a seedling "swap-n-sell" on Saturday,
October 29th. It will be 930 - 12 in Katoomba, 21 Pulpit Hill Rd. A good way to
jump-start our Spring planting season- and inspire each other to get our
seedlings started ASAP- so we will have something to swap.
(A warm sunny windowsill would be a good place to get tomatoes going in little
clay pots- will try that in a week or so.)
Earth Day is currently celebrated April 22nd- so Footlight is perfectly timed on
Oct 22nd for the southern hemisphere. Also, traditionally festivities were held
over a whole week - so the 29th is still within range.
I hope this seedling event will enhance and add to the other things happening in
October - after all, you can't have too much sustainability.
Thanks,
Rob

Radio Plays at the Mountain Heritage & Spa Resort
Local talent performing world class radio plays
Hello All you wonderful Radio Play supporters,
Here we are again. Another month & we are rehearsing for two more great Plays.
"Dweller in Darkness" - You are really going to love these two. First one involves the game of Bridge & the supernatural, with dire results: which was broadcast in 1925 on the BBC. Those were the really early days of Radio.
Our cast has been practising their seance skills for this one!! Mrs Vyner is played by Annette Emerson, Henry by Philip Hammon. Amanda Russell is Phyllis, Mortimer is Colin Semmler, Professor Urquhart is James Craib. Mr. Vyner is David Cox, our very talented S/Fx artist. David Doyle is the SF/x operator.
"The Use of Man" - The second Play is one that was written in 1933 by the foremost British dramatist Lord Dunsany. It was commissioned for the Columbia Workshop Festival Series in 1939. It is about how Man has to have at least two animals testify of what use man is to the animal kingdom. It is a clever play & will appeal to all the animal lovers in our audience. The cast has to play many parts, & that gets pretty tricky.
Announcer is Juliette, 1st. Foxhunter James Craib, 2nd. Foxhunter Philip Hammon, Lord Gorse is David Doyle, Mr. Pelby (Master of Fox Hounds) is David Cox. Lord Gorse's son is James Craib, Diana a hunting lady is Amanda Russell. Dinner Guest & Hunter , Williams is Colin Semmler. Travelling Spirit is Annette Emerson, The Spirits of the Dog is Jan Vaughan, Of the Crow is Philip Hammon, the Bear is Colin Semmler, the Bee is Deirdre Lassau, the Cat is Juliette Palmer-Frederick, the Horse is James Craib, the Cow is Juliette, the Pig is Philip Hammon. The Hen is Deirdre Lassau, the Rabbit is Amanda Russell, the Birds are the Cast, the Mosquito is James Craib.
All this excitement will take place at the Mountain Heritage, on 29th. July 2012 at 2:30pm in the Ballroom, which is at the Cnr. Apex & Lovel Sts. Katoomba.
Tickets are $15.00pp at the door, or book on 4782 2155 - Includes Afternoon Tea & the Plays. Please phone for catering purposes for the Delicious, Yummy Afternoon Tea provided by our sponsors Whisk & Pin. CD's of our previous Plays will be available after the show.
We look forward to seeing you.

Mayoral Invitation to the Arts Community
Blue Mountains Creative Council gathering
The Mayor of the City of the Blue Mountains has extended an invitation to all
members of the arts community to attend a discussion on the possible formation
of a Blue Mountains
Creative Council at the Carrington Hotel, Katoomba from 6-9pm
on Monday 17th December.
From the Mayor:
"This body is intended to provide an ongoing forum for local artists to
network with all levels of Government as well as non-Government organisations,
philanthropists and the private sector.
I believe very strongly that as our local area possesses such a wealth of
artistic talent, it should be a natural destination for Art and Cultural
attractions. This can and will only occur if driven by the arts community in
partnership with the stakeholders outlined above. As your Mayor, I would like to
build a stronger relationship to help achieve this goal.
The meeting will include but not be limited to:
- Suggestions on the structure of a Blue Mountains Creative Council
- Update on the revamp of the old Katoomba Library to a multi-use space incl. Community Theatre
- Update on the forthcoming BMCC Arts and Cultural Policy
- Information on the Blue Mountains City of the Arts Trust
I look forward to
seeing you there and hearing your views on how to enhance the status of the
Blue Mountains art.
Kind Regards,
Clr Daniel Myles
Mayor
City of the Blue Mountains"

Bolivia: Earth-worshippers in power, sort of
Presented by Eileen Haley
MoonCourt, Blue Mountains
Saturday 23rd February, 10am-1pm
Eileen tells a story of how Earth-worshippers came to power in Bolivia and what they have done with that power. The story is based on solid research and marvellously weaves magic, history, ritual, geography, political struggle and harsh realities into a fascinating tale that is filled with romance but not romantic.
This work was first presented, to much acclaim, at the GAIA Conference in October 2012.
The text was then posted online on the PaGaian website (http://pagaian.org/essays/bolivia-earth-worshippers-in-power-sort-of) and linked to other notable websites globally .
Eileen now offers an updated version, with full visual and experiential components, that takes in the 2012 Summer Solstice, celebrated in Bolivia as the shift of the centre of Earth's energy to Lake Titicaca, the womb of the world, and the beginning of a time of harmony and balance.
Presenter Eileen Haley is a Sydney-based crone, poet and PaGaian with longstanding connections to Latin America and a love of magic realism in all its forms.
Contribution: $20 -10 sliding scale
To book in: email glenys@pagaian.org or phone 4751 6100. Pre-payment welcome, to confirm numbers.
Tea/coffee and cakes provided. Bring prepared lunch to share if you wish to stay a while after 1pm.
