Associations
In keeping with cittaslow practices, it is valuable and fruitful to align Cittaslow with local industry bodies, affiliate entities and organisation, as well as community groups, to develop mutual support within our region. This is collaboration that is so beneficial and engendering of community at many levels.
If you see your organisation to be suitable and open to connecting with Cittaslow, please let us know.
The Blue Mountains Permaculture Institute
You can visit the website at:
http://www.bluemountainspermacultureinstitute.com.au (or the shortcut of http://www.bmpi.com.au)
The site will be a source of changing articles, videos and resources on how positive change can, and is, happening and we will be stretching the boundaries of Permaculture as we address how communities can move forward in these rapidly changing and uncertain times.
We are also providing links to as many groups as possible and, for those in the Blue Mountains, we've provided a quicklink list of sites you might like to visit regularly - from weather and transport links to other permaculturists, food groups, Wires etc.
While you're at the site:
read a personal account of being part of the Community Solar Panel bulk buy and having solar panels installed - if you want another backup during blackouts you might even like to get a solar lantern at the Community Markets in Blackheath this Sunday (click on the Store button to see what it's like!)
read a blog about some of Rowe Morrow's Development Work in Africa (click on the Commentary tab in the top bar)
visit the Calendar by clicking below, to keep up with the many things that are happening in the Mountains and Central West over the next month from the Blackheath Community Market at the school and the A.T.A. meeting this Sunday to Permaculture Courses, the Climate Summit Bus Trip, the Ecopella CD launch, the Ethical Investment Seminar, Permablitzing at the E.L.F. in Orange and lots more.
Calendar:
Click on the items on the calendar to get more details about each event.
watch a whole range of Videos about Permaculture, Food, Monsanto, Forests etc and even have a chuckle watching one of the first episodes of The Good Life in which they trade their car for a plough and dig up their front lawn to plant potatoes!
Click on the links under Blue Mountains Community to take you to other Great Community Sites in the Mountains .... if you'd like to have these readily at hand you can even make the Blue Mountains Permaculture Institute Site the Home Page of your web browser by clicking on the About Us tab in the top bar and following the step-by-step instructions.
Our Courses will all start AFTER the 7th February. The Permaculture Design Certificate starts on the 14th February. We still have vacancies for all courses.

Blue Mountains Permaculture Network www.permaculturebluemountains.net
Our aim is to create a supportive network for people in the Blue Mountains, Australia, who want to help develop a sustainable bio-region based on the principles and strategies of permaculture.
As a permaculture network we seek to build beneficial connections both within the Blue Mountains bioregion and beyond.
Blue Mountains Permaculture Network (BMPN) is composed of 3 sub regional working groups:
- Lower Mountains (LM)
- Mid Mountains (MM)
- Upper Mountains (PermiUM)
The sub regional groups focus on localised support and activities.
What Is Permaculture?
Permaculture can be defined as a system of applied design for the creation of sustainable human habitat.
David Holmgren says a current definition is: Consciously designed landscapes which mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature, while yielding an abundance of food, fibre and energy for provision of local needs.
People, their buildings and the way in which they organise themselves are central to permaculture. (2002)
Ethics of Permaculture
- Care of the earth
- Care of people
- The sharing of resources to help others achieve their needs
- And reduce consumption
